OBJECTS
This work revolves around the making and photographing of various objects . Cast in a variety of materials from concrete to marble, latex to wax, they are often left deformed through the process of their production.
My objects act as impressions of specific and familiar forms. in the series 'Punctums' we see a vintage Murano glass Bambi has been represented as a molten lump, and a baby elephant as a broken stony thing. Ornaments that were once treasured have been cast aside and refigured as uncanny reminders, visitors from the past.
By photographing my objects, or presenting them as moving images, I aim to control the way they are seen. This second level of re-presentation enables certain details to be exposed and specific tensions within the image revealed.
In ‘Two-a-Breast’, a velvet riding helmet has be cast in a fleshy wax. And in ‘Pony Tales’, a series of sculptures made from real horse hair, we see a magical white pony tail transform into various guises and characters.
